Harness Safety, Inspection and Maintenance
NZQA  US21969  -  L2 / 3 cr
Objectives/Outlines Available upon request
Candidates Those candidates responsible for managing staff using the equipment, the maintenance and inspection of the equipment and ensuring it has been test certified, plus all users of the equipment
Duration  Half day, or one day if client site and procedural specifics are included in the course
Training Manuals / Reference Notes Provided beginning course.  
Course Numbers 12 - 15 maximum
Assessment Group discussion, written questionnaire covering the theory component (open book assessment), followed by a practical demonstration of harness use on the worksite.  
Comments This course is specifically for people responsible for site harnesses, the users, and the maintenance and test certification following an inspection by a certified Certifier.  Certification of harnesses is a legal requirement and if clients have their own qualified onsite test certifiers, a saving can be made.

TOSHA can also provide ID Cards identifying authorised Test Certifiers, and these cards also, authorise approved access to TOSHA's Training Record on our Website and on site.

Candidates Managers, Work Planners, Supervisors and all work staff progressing forward to employing fall arrest systems and controls within an industrial work site.
Duration 1 Day

Assessment Group exercises, practical exposure to systems equipment and PPE, written questionnaire
Comments This is an excellent course to ensure candidates understand legislation and organisational requirements applicable to managing work at heights on industrial sites.  Exposure is given to types of equipment and systems as well as PPE.  Legislation is covered, how to recognise hazard factors for types of height jwork and fall arrest systems, and safety harness work.

Objectives/Outlines Available upon request
Candidates Supervisors, Team Leaders, Trades People, Technicians and Personnel who are required to work at height and employ fall arrest systems requiring rescue or belay to safety zones.
Duration 2 Days
Training Manuals / Reference Notes Provided beginning training
Course Numbers 10 maximum
Assessment Theoretical questionnaire, practical demonstration of harness and life-line application, planning and assisting in establishing anchor points and fall constraints, verbal assessment and Assessor observation
Comments Critical and approved course by the Department of Labour.  It covers legislation, hazard management, practical rigging, use of height equipment, fall prevention and arrest systems, euipment maintenance and inspection, PPE, rescue planning, anchor points

Candidates Supervisors, Site Managers, staff working at heights
Duration 1 to 2 Days
Training Manuals / Reference Notes Provided during training and can include client specific procedures, practices and forms
Course Numbers 12 maximum
Assessment Practical demonstration, observation, verbal assessment and a written questionnaire
Comments The beauty of this course is clients can have it developed and delivered to meet their specific requirements.  Consultancy advice occurs also meaning management and ground staff gain significant knowledge during the course.  The modules can include as many or as much information as the client requires and the base modules are:
