This course ensures your company is legislatively compliant.  You will have met the requirements of the HSE Act, and your staff will have been made aware of the ISO Standards, Codes of Practice, Guidelines relevant to machinery operations.

TOSHA’s partnership with the Elevating Work Platforms Association of New Zealand (EWPANZ) has resulted in the production of a high quality, EWPANZ endorsed, training programme including approved training manuals and an ID card system. Candidate certifications will appear on the TOSHA website. Trainers of this programme also hold the EWPANZ endorsement.

The training standards, candidate and client evaluations, and internal/external moderation will all be monitored by TOSHA to ensure a continuous focus on quality, and nationally consistent training is delivered. ITO moderation will be carried out as normal by the Opportunity ITO, and the NZQA QS1 audit model criteria for Quality Management Systems being in place also apply.

TOSHA has 4 approved trainers/assessors and deliver nationally.  1 based Auckland covering Northland, Bay of Plenty and the Waikato;  1 Taranaki covering Central North Island;  1 Christchurch - available to South Island clients.

  • The compulsory theoretical training component is half a day, the practical assessment for each piece of EWP machinery will take 20 minutes per person to be assessed against the standard required to achieve competencies.
    Training can be inhouse and include workplace practices and procedures relevant to a specific site, and the machinery familiar to candidates is used for the practical assessment;  OR  candidates can attend a Public training course.

Comments The course covers operator safety rules and practices, terminology, critical safety factors, checking systems, load capacity, and correct stacking and destaking techniques. 

This course is a requirement of the Department of Labour (formerly known as the OSH Certificate) and competent operators MUST be certified by law.  Pocket sized certificates or ID Cards can be issued as proof of competency based on US10851.  The course curriculum is based on Industry Best Practice as per the OSH Code of Practice, and performance criteria is based on US10851 Operate a powered industrial lift truck fitted with forks.

Comments The telehandler comes in many makes and models.  It is a versatile type of mobile lifting plant, incorporating a telescopic boom which can be fitted with a variety of attachments.  The most common attachment used with Telehandlers is forks.  The range of attachments that can be used depends on the design of the particular machine and whether or not the machine has been designed to accommodate the required attachments.

Assessment Theory assessment includes group discussion, class exercises, written questionnaire;  practical assessment is via a practical drive with a registered and approved AA Assessor.
Comments

This is an excellent AA approved and accredited training programme and TOSHA is accredited to deliver it.  The course includes a half day theory component and an optional 1 hour driving assessment with a registered Land Transport Driver Instructor/Examiner, and written report to management.  The practical drive is critical as it is poor driving habits that place companies and employees at risk.  As per the HSE Act 1992 a company vehicle is a place of work so the law can be applied as per Section 13.  The drive will improve on-road hazard awareness, evaluate driver skills, attitude and behaviours. Your expected learning outcome cam be :

    Comments This is an ACC initated driver safe awareness programme designed for the general road freight industry and deals with loading, unloading, fatigue and other non-driving related aspects of truck transport.  It represents good value as an effective safety-training tool in the commercial and managerial benefits it brings.  It can include specific industry requirements. 

    Hazard management is the most important element of a health and safety system. So it is important that everyone is involved in identifying hazards. This course explains how you can effectively manage general and common hazards in a road freight transport industry (i.e. out of the cab hazards) and complies with the health and safety employment act (1992). On successful completion of this course and assessment the candidate will not only qualify for issue of a personalised DriverSafe passport, the holder will also be recognisable to other safety-assured worksites.
    In addition an excellent unit standard to fit with this training is US497 Level 1 / Credit 1. This unit is a basic hazard management programme which is essential to any driver identifying work place hazards relevant to their duties.

If candidate has evidence completing US 24089 within 12 months there is no need to complete this training. If more than 12 months confirming as to wether or not you have retained the knowledge will be evaluated.

Comments CERTIFICATION - Participants who achieve the competent pass for both sessions will be issued with a New Zealand Transport Agency Certificate. This will enable trainees to gain the Full Licence "Class 2", eliminating the six or three month time restriction.

P  (Passenger)  Endorsement

Candidates People intending to legally drive passenger service vehicles on the road
Duration COMPULSORY TRAINING
Day 1:
Training and activities 5 hours.   Assessment process theory 3 hours (this is a closed book assessment), drive 1 hour (allocated times will be arranged on day1 for day 3) for Unit Standard 17579v4 “Demonstrate knowledge of driver licensing requirements for endorsement P (passenger)”
Day 2:
Training and activities 5 hours.  Assessment process theory 3 hours (this is a closed book assessment) for Unit Standard 24089 “Demonstrate knowledge of fatigue management, work time, and driver logbook requirements” (if required)

Note3:
If candidate has evidence completing US 24089 within 12 months there is no need to complete this training. If more than 12 months confirming as to wether or not you have retained the knowledge will be evaluated.

Training Handbooks / Reference Notes After payment of registration fee, trainees will be given/sent their study guides to read and to complete as many activities as possible prior to course commencement.  This will allow candidates to gain knowledge, skills and to help identify particular areas needed for the driver licensing course.

Assessment Theory will require trainees to complete assessments that will address unit standard 17579 v4 “Demonstrate knowledge of driver licensing requirements for endorsement P (passenger)”  and 24089 “Demonstrate knowledge of fatigue management, work time, and driver logbook requirements” (if required). This will be a closed book assessment.
Comments The process to acquire a Passenger Endorsement on your licence after training competency achieved:
Take to the AA:

-  a completed Passenger Endorsement Certificate from TOSHA
-  a current full drivers licence Class other than Class 6 for at least 2 years
-  a current medical certificate (unless you have already done so for other licenses within the last 5 years)
-  a completed DL20 application form
-  1 form of Primary ID (Licence, Passport, Birth Certificate)
-  1 form of Secondary ID (bank statement confirming address)

You then have to complete a full driving test.  The AA will then send off an application to the New Zealand Transport Agency who will undertake a "Fit and Proper" person check.

Once your tests and checks are complete, you will receive your Passenger (P) Endorsement

Will I need to study prior to the training day?
On receipt of your registration and payment for the course, you will be given the handbooks or they will be mailed to you.  Candidates are encouraged to read these handbooks prior to training to assist them in completing assessments during the course.
